Do we expect favoritism when it benefits us?

ethics in the workplaceI am about to say something a lot of people will not agree with.

Let’s look at favoritism on a simple level.

A “favor” is giving to a person on a bias not because he or she is more qualified.

Most of the time; not all the time if a person is more qualified they will get promoted.

Sometimes we have to play office politics to prove our worth, but the majority of the time your resume should speak for itself.

Have you ever heard an employee complain about a new person getting the job they applied for?

They are not complaining because they are more qualified.

They struggle to believe a new person could have more credentials than them.

Do you believe the more senior person should get the job?

Why?

Just because you learned a job inside and out does not automatically make you more qualified.

Some jobs need more than on-the-job training.

There are many employees with only OJT.

It is true that OJT training is valuable, but many jobs need organizational, critical thinking, time-management, and project-planning skills.

Most of us start to feel frustrated when we keep getting passed over for promotions.

Would you hire a person with your credentials?

Sometimes we stay at a job so long we get comfortable.

We can not complain when another employee comes in with more credentials.

This is a dog eat dog World and the goal is to compete.  If you stop competing, you accept your job and responsibilities.

An ambitious person never stops competing.

News flash!!!

An ambitious person comes in the door wanting to move up the ladder.

They have goals.

No one sets a goal to complain about ambitious people.

Are you in a place to move up?

Have you done everything you can do to get promoted?

Ask your manager how can you improve.

Do not be afraid to leave your “friends” behind.

I got news for you, you are responsible for you.

Do not be a victim of  the “crab” syndrome.

If someone gets promoted applaud them.

Do not drink “hater-ade”

You should find out why people are moving up not complain about the process.

Sometimes you have to get another job to move up.  Just be smart about it.

Do not lose your ambition.

Set a goal for your career.

Never settle for boone farm wine when everyone else is drinking Cristal.

Am I expecting a promotion or am I more qualified?

What does he know that I do not?
